I am Vietnamese working as both interpreter & translator. I agree that, new demands for translation are true. But it is scattered and rates are lowering by new comers, and client prefer to use the cheap service. ( this is bad for client at first hand, no cost effective either).
However, for interpreter it is very focused to certain number of interpreters who established reputation and brand name in the industry. Rate for interpretation will continue to increase.

What tosh: "... their wages steadily grew before, during and after the recession". I think not. This kind of "streets paved with gold" article is the last thing thing we need. The "market" is already full to the brim with dross and bottom feeders and exaggerated claims like this will only serve to attract more sharks.
