German term

Eine nächste

German to English Medical Medical (general)
Discharge report on a patient with implantable defibrillator/cardioverter.

"Eine naechste AICD-Kontrolle ist in einem Intervall von 3 Monaten zu empfehlen."

My problem: does it mean that follow-up should take place EVERY 3 months, or that the NEXT follow-up should take place in 3 months. I am leaning towards the former, but I am far from being sure.

German natives and near-natives please help!
Ok,Ok, Austrians, too :):)

A next AICD check in 3 months is recommended

While they may well recommend checks every 3 months, I understand the German text as another check in 3 months. They could have worded it a bit simpler, though.
Peer comment(s):

agree Merry Foxworth : I think they are only talking about the next checkup in three months

Thank you, Patricia!
agree Mack Tillman (X) : Yes, its either check ups in an interval of three months or the next check up is in three months. Doctors often get their wording somewhat mixed up, because they write their discharge reports under pressure or get disturbed while writing.

agree Anne Schulz : He/she may have had regular "intervals" in the back of his/her mind, but is talking about the next check only.

agree Elizabeth Kelly : A follow-up is recommended in 3 moths. Otherwise it would have to say:"Weitere Kontrollen sind in Intervallen von je 3 Monaten zu empfehlen". :-)
