even though I still fail to see why you wouldn't simply wear multivision lenses during the day then, especially since that certain kind of farsightedness that comes with (what my lens fitter calls) "increasing experience of life" has nothing to do with the shape of the cornea. Still, there might be special cases that would require such a solution.

Thanks for the explanation. It all makes more sense now!
So the deep structure is that the ortho-k lenses can be tweaked such that they can also improve the vision of those who must wear contacts for whatever reason?

The way I understand it, these ortho-K lenses can be designed to give accurate monovision or binocular near vision during the day without any lenses, and if you wear "normal" contact lenses in addition during the day, your distant vision will be good as well.
Of course, you'll end up wearing lenses both at night and during the day. Plus, if you're going to wear lenses during the day anyway, you might as well wear multivision lenses (like I do) in the first place, but I guess that wouldn't be good for business...
