Let her doctor figure it out. You correctly point out an ambiguity, but your job as a translator is merely to reproduce the same ambiguity in English. A translation should not contain more information, or more specific information, than the original. I agree with Ellen Kraus' solution "may detrimentally affect". However I don't understand why she identifies her translation proposal with your option 2. On the contrary, "may detrimentally affect" fails to clear up the issue, which is exactly what you should do. |
