Okay, the date's set - August 12, but the location depends a bit on the weather. If it's a lovely sunny day then we will go to the beach, but if it's a bit dreech then we'll probably meet up for lunch in a restaurant in town.
If we do go to the beach it would be easiest if we have a big picnic, with everyone bringing their own food and drink (and sun cream!). And don't forget your bucket and spade for the first ever Proz sandcastle competition :-)
St. Andrews is a wonderful costal town on the east coast of Scotland. Remember Chariots of Fire? Well that's the beach we're heading for. Bring your own language and be ready for a great afternoon! Kids, significant others and dogs are all welcome!
Hi, I am not platinum yet, but should be soon enough (waiting for my computer to be fixed). I am new here, but would like to join you in St Andrews since I am based in Bonnie Dundee. I would chose the later dates, but I not too bothered.
I used to live in St. Andrews and will be staying near Edinburgh that week. Sorry - it looks as though it is going to be rather small for me to drive for two hours to go to. Hopefully another year.
Righty-ho, the 12th it is then. The beach in good weather, a restaurant in town if the forecast is miserable.

and so is winter it would seem.... Anyway I was wondering whether we are any further forward with the organisation.... are people who will be attending still to say so? Also I hope there is going to be some Italian speaker to talk to (you know, the practice always comes in handy:). There must be some in the area.
Anyway, I'll see you there (God willing and weather permitting)
Andrea

I haven't made any concrete plans for the powwow yet as I am still in Germany. We'll be arriving in Scotland on August 8, and then I'll need to check the weather forecast
I've been to the beach plenty of times, but would have to go there myself before the powwow to be able to give you all a detailed description of where to meet.

Hi everyone!

If the weather looks good enough to have a beach party - everyone should bring their own food and drink. Perhaps we could get some disposable barbeques and have a cookout.
If the weather's lousy, then I would suggest going to the Doll's House restaurant in the center of town. They have good food at very reasonable prices, and if I remember right it's a no-smoking establishment. They are also very child-friendly and have a small play area for the kids. I'll almost certainly have all three of my kids along wherever we end up meeting (aged 6, 3 and 1), so feel free to bring your own children, spouses, significant others etc. (although I think we'd have to leave our dog at home as I don't think dogs are allowed in restaurants in Scotland).

...but I'm not going to be able to make it. I've just found out that I've been offered a project management position with a company in Madrid, so need to make plans to move out there as soon as possible!!! Maybe I'll look into organising the next Madrid Powwow - hope you all have fun anyways! Paul

I've finally made it to St. Andrews, and the weather is pretty decent but there are occasional showers. So I think the best plan will be to meet for lunch at the Dolls' House restaurant in the center of town (South Street, beside the library/behind the church).
Please could you set your attendance indicators today to let me know who's coming so that I can book a table accordingly.
Thanks!

Anyone driving/wanting a lift from Edinburgh?
Aug 11, 2005
Or arriving by train at Leuchars? I'm trying to decide which one would be easiest, and sharing a car all the way or a taxi from Leuchars would be ideal.

Lifts
Aug 11, 2005
I should be driving from Dundee, so if someone wants a lift from Leuchars, it is not a problem (as long as i don't get a stampede:)

I've booked a table at the Dolls' House for 12 o'clock . They didn't have anything left for later, so please note the slight change of time compared to the original plan!!!
Lunches there are very reasonably priced - they have a selection of nice lunch menus for well under a tenner (unless they've put their prices up drastically since the last time I was there. The table is booked under the name of Riddell (or proz powwow).

Parking in St. Andrews town center requires a voucher - you can get them in almost any shop. There's also a pay and display car park near the bus station which is a wee bit cheaper. It's a 5-10 minute walk from there to the restaurant.
