commercial activity
Foundations can carry out economic activity as long as it is not their main purpose. If the activity is necessary to pursue the public benefit purpose and does not compete with for-profit organisations it is not taxed (so called “Zweckbetrieb”). Unrelated commercial activity (so called “wirtschaftlicher Geschäftsbetrieb”) is normally taxed if the incomeamounts to more than 30,000 euros.
