Spannpilz

Deutsch > Englisch Technik Technik (allgemein) Laser Product Specification

From a laser product specification. I can't make head or tail of "Spannpilz". Clamping mushroom??? I very much doubt it!!! TIA for helping me make some sense of this nutty word!

PS: TL stands for Trägerlage, which I have asked about here:

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Apr 11, 2004:
I was hoping that someone here might know. That's what KudoZ is supposed to be for. It could have transpired that someone might have come across this term in their own translation life. It would appear not, however. :-(

Can you ask the client??
Non-ProZ.com Apr 10, 2004:
Another Occurrence Here's another passage involving these wretched Spannpilze:

"2.2.7 Laserstation

I really, really do not understand this word!

dome-headed rod

I think "pilz" must refer to the shape of the device used for pressing the Stopperronde on to the TL. (Google was unable to find a Spannpilz)
Peer comment(s):

agree Ken Cox : or 'dome-headed stud' if it's relatively short (which I think is more likely). I've encountered 'xxxpilz' before in other mechanical contexts, and I agree that it refers to the shape of the object.

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I'm giving the points to this answer, mainly on the basis of Kenneth Cox's peer grade comment. Another thought I had belatedly was "mushroom clamp", which does get a couple of search engine hits, but "dome-headed stud" is probably a better bet. I feel just confident enough about it to enter it in the glossary, though not quite sure enough to give it maximum points. But anyway, thanks for your help, everyone. Very much appreciated."

a tuffy!

no googles for Spannpilz! But Ernst offers "block / gear cluster" and "button tool" for Drehpilz. Could it be a mushroom (fungiform) tool or applicator?

block/gear cluster were suggested for \"Pilz\". Pilzmeissel= also \"button tool\"?
