Deutsch term

objektivierbar

Deutsch > Englisch Medizin Medizin (allgemein)
Befund, accident injuries:

"Manifeste Paresen sind nicht objektivierter."

I know what it means: objektivierbar=subjektunabhängig wiederholbar

But I was wondering whether I can use "reproducible" here: "Manifest palsies are not reproducible"? Does this make sense?

Any better ideas (it's 4 AM here and I am proving to be an OCD-perfectionist...between you and me, I could just go with "objectifiable" and call it a night...hehe).

But perhaps this entry will help others in the future and build our glossary, so I hope that we will ointly come up with an elegant solution to this. After all, translation is art.

THANKS

Discussion

Steffen Walter Feb 8, 2022:
@ Barbara I don't think that other patients are involved here - the context above seems to indicate just a single case report.
Susanne Schiewe Feb 8, 2022:
Barbara Schmidt, M.A. (X) Feb 8, 2022:
Ramey IMO this has nothing to do with substantiation.
It's about the results being repeated with other patients.
Lirka (asker) Feb 8, 2022:
typo Sorry, I noticed a typo. It should read "Manifeste Paresen sind nicht objektivierbar."
Ramey Rieger (X) Feb 8, 2022:
Could it mean not substantiated? As in not enough objective/visible basis?

See my comment on your answer.
agree Anne Schulz : That's how I read it as well - pt. possibly complains of weakness and inability to use muscles/limbs, but 'objective' tests like EMG, ENoG don't confirm any abnormalities.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean.
agree uyuni : with 'verifiable' only...'Objectively verifiable' seems like a tautology to me.

As far as 'evidence' is concerned, Altmayer says that
Evidence refers to "that which is apparently unquestionable, that which is recognisable by direct observation or insight".

neutral Steffen Walter : Not sure at all because Lirka's context indicates findings in a single patient ("Befund, accident injuries"). There's no comparison/reproducibility involved here, in my view.

subjective / subjectively confirmed

for some reason sometimes in German objektiverter means subjective. I think this is one of those cases. In other words, because it is manifest, it is not subjective.

objectively identifiable (way)

objektivierbar=subjektunabhängig wiederholbar : repeatable or reproducible in an objectively identifiable and subject-independent (-unrelated) way.

Manifeste Paresen sind nicht objektivierter : ....are not identifiable any more objectively... (assuming this is the comparative form).
Example sentence:

Which term is used to describe an objectively identifiable aberration of the disease? A. Syndrome B. Symptom C. Sign D. Stage.
