: I think that would be a conservator -- just talked with a neighbor about this exact topic today, he is trying to become the conservator for his mother who has dementia. Custodian, I can't help it, reminds me of a school janitor.

custodian is also someone who has primary care of a minor, in divorce cases for in stance you have the custodial parent, who is the on e in charge of the children legally. It is overall the primary legal caretaker, not at all a conservator!
