Personas, a computer application, was written and installed on a website as part of an MIT art installation. It purports to create a picture of how the internet perceives you:

I've tested it and it certainly has a lot of (predominantly cultural) bugs. However, it's fascinating, fun, and can sometimes be scary.

It shows that I read news about 2-3% of the time - 65-70% is actual usage. Genealogy 15% - the fact 0%...
I tried my granddaughter's name, yesterday she turned 3, and my son set her computer to access only one site with educational games, kid's art... And I was amazed that she spends a third of a time accessing politics and another third for news.
Give me a break!

I ran a journalist friend's name through it. She got mixed up with a lady who died in the 19th century.
I tried "Pepito Perez" but didn't even want to begin with the English version (John Doe).

My dad who spent 18-60 as a naval officer came up as 100% "books". But that period was mainly pre public internet. He spent his 'retirement' (post 1993) writing, editing, translating and publishing books on naval themes, so not totally wrong.
What I can't work out is why I get almost 20% "religion" and, more importantly, why my teenage son gets a large chunk of "illegal". Serious discussion at dinner tonight...

Hi! I tried my name three times and got three different readings. For the most part, I guess it is pretty accurate as on two of the three I had pretty evenly-spread results (sports, religion, family, internet and books).
On one of them it included "aggression" (um...consider myself to be quite "zen" and not at all aggressive!), but on another it included "accident" instead of "aggression" (I guess that accidents can come of being aggressive?!).
