a dog, a cat and a kitten on the way May 23, 2007

A long-time cat lover I suddenly went for a dog about 8 months ago, adopted her from the local dog pound. I thought about it a lot, especially as she was a puppy... it helped that the pound also provides a fairly inexpensive kennel service.

I also had a fairly good set up, including a backroom and patio, so there was somewhere for her to be parked and avoid damage to walls (she eats the plaster), my shoes and clothes, etc.

I named her Bonnie, and she has grown from a small woolly bundle into a big wolf-like hairy thing with a mutt's face:-) As far as I know she's a variation on a Catalan sheepdog.

For a freelancer working from home, a dog is in some ways better then a cat (which better suits people who are away from home for many hours), becuase you have to take breaks to exercise them. I now split my day in two, and head outdoors around 1 pm and home by about 3pm.

She's now learning to run along beside the bike ...I love biking and need to exercise my dog .... and the day is only so long:-)

NO regrets!

One dog May 23, 2007

Beautiful Fiona, 2 years old, a bernese mountain dog. You can see her in my profile's picture. Before her, I had an afghan hound.
I plan to have more dogs at the end of the year as I intend to move to a big house in the countryside.

A cat May 23, 2007

Judging from the pictures in the Russian forum and in this one as well, it seems that cats are the official pet for translators

No pets but lots of animal friends... May 23, 2007

And no I'm not joking.

Ever since I was a kid pigeons used to visit my room... I used to be scared of them and somehow they were always there. I still remember pigeons getting in my bed and waking me up (I loved keeping the window open). In fact, everyone in my family calls them "Ritu's Friends".

The only reason that they don't come to my room anymore is that I've sort of closed all access routes to my room after an accident (a pigeon and ceiling fan) in which the pigeon died. I was just too scared when I woke up. After that I don't open the window or the door to my room. It was terrible

But there are many squirrels on my roof and of course, I still feed my dear friends only they are not allowed in my room...

I miss them. It was nice because they were not captive... still they returned every day... and well... I learnt to like them once I stopped being scared of them...

My boy May 23, 2007

Dear colleagues,

What gorgeous pictures of your pets!

Ok, like a proud "mom" showing off her children, I show you my baby boy, his name is Captain Tony (my dh gave him this name from a Jimmy Buffett's song), but everybody calls him Tony.

He's a beautiful Golden Retriever and he's almost 7.
I think he's the most spoilt and pampered dog on earth, but I think that many of you will say that your dog is the most pampered dog around!

2 dogs and 1 cat May 23, 2007

I used to have 3 dogs but one disappeared, and has never made it back.
I also used to have more cats and kittens, but have singng birds in the garden, and frogs in the evening. It's spring.
And there are many insects too. And I have deer in my field sometimes.
Two or three weeks ago we met a herd of cute wild piglets in the road but I also noticed their Mom, and we ran away with my son as fast as we could. I don't think she would behave.

I am definitely a dog person. I have 4 dogs: 2 German Shepherds, a Belgian shepherd and a mix Shepherd Rodesian Ridgeback. She doesn't have the whole worl but a cute little one that goes about half up her back.

They also form part of my exercise routine. Running around the perimeter with them and catching frizbees.

When I work, one is always positioned underneath my desk and uses my feet as a pillow.

Great topic.

Monsieur Émile May 23, 2007

He is my brown tabby and he's almost two years old. I have a big yard and his mom had her babies there (stray cat). I got used to them and they got used to me (I got to play with little 6-week old kitties!). The mother even let me pat her a few times while she was relaxing with her babies - and we're talking stray cat here!

Anyways, my boyfriend watched me for two months going ooooh and aaaah with the kitties (I would occasionally feed the mother because she looked a little worn out, just to make sure the babies get enough mother's milk), and after a while, when he discovered which of the four kitties was my favorite, he picked him up and bought the entire cat kit at the pet shop for my birthday.

He is a very sweet cat, he needs attention and affection but he gives affection in a very subtle way. He doesn't care about the printer, but he's so smart that he always combines two toys and can't just play with one thing at once. That is why I keep finding his disco mouse in his bowl of water, soaking wet. He also thinks that everything is a living being - and he pretends he's not there and hides before he attacks the bathroom rug, my shoes, my bag and other inanimate things he likes to pretend they're all mice.

His name is Monsieur Émile, but we so often call him Poulet (chicken) that I guess he thinks that's his name. We call him chicken because animals can be cooked on a barbecue just like chicken - my boyfriend keeps pretending he's rolling him in flour and keeps saying that if he's mean, we'll have him for dinner.

I'm drooling with this story

A dog, a cat, a hamster and a snake May 23, 2007

I got my dog about a year ago (chocolate lab called Brian). I've had my cat for 7 years (Harry). Sunshine the snake is my son's and Lola de Hamster is my daughter's. Getting the dog is the best thing I ever did. It makes me go out and I feel a lot better physically.

No regrets here either!

Question:-) May 23, 2007

a DWARF hamster

Can it be seen with a naked eye?:-). Must be adorable:-)

I am an obvious cat person - 2 cats, would take more if I could but my guys are growing older (will be 12 in August, they are brother and sister) and they deserve some peace, quiet and unconditional love - they moved with me a lot, 'cross the ocean including. They used to take walks with me and come back, no leashes! Now they have their own balcony with their personal door cut through the wall (American wall:-)) in the living room. With my friends and/or a neighbor coming daily when I'm gone my 1-week absense is no problem at all - they are big babies and know that I'll come back soon. For 10 days and more they go visit their kitty-friend.

Rufik - our fitness trainer and uncounted number of fish - our home cinema :) May 23, 2007

Rufik is a 2 years old lab and he makes sure we have enough exercise daily

Other "flat mates" include a few hundreds of fish - here is one who didn't feel well and decided to stay in self-made bed for a few days:

You just can't overestimate the joy and happiness pets bring to our lives!
