To answer Ivana's question: as far as I could see, here on tv they didn't broadcast anything live (they had an extensive coverage of the Live Earth concert instead). I got the news from the Web.

BTW the brain behind this campaign is a well known business-man and for obvious reasons UNESCO has distanced itself from this campaign and just check out UNESCO has a much better list of World Heritage sites...
And do you know that people could vote more than once, the only condition was that you voted from a separate e-mail id or phone number every time. And every time you sent an SMS from your mobile phone to vote, it was not at the normal rate but at a higher rate. Just like all those game-shows
Anyways, evidently Mr. Weber is an intelligent entrepreneur and no one can deny that
So who is the real winner?
P.S.: I guess even UNESCO list is not really complete... but it is open so new destinations can always be included if they fulfill the criteria

In Spain I listened to a radio ad which invited to vote for one of those "wonders". The SMS cost was almost 2 Euros. If you take into account the radio ad costs, it's easy to imagine that there has already been big money moving around this.
