How can I view comments from Acrobat Reader X?

Hi there.

I have a client who recently sent me a pdf to proofread.
Only changed parts where to be proofread, more specifically inserted text, which (according to the client and the client's screenshots) should appear to me as blue boxes/notes in the text, and by clicking these blue boxes I should be able to see the inserted text.

This does not happen, however, and my client seems to be completely in the dark about why this is not so and actually more or less takes

Hi there.

I have a client who recently sent me a pdf to proofread.

This does not happen, however, and my client seems to be completely in the dark about why this is not so and actually more or less takes me for an idiot - and perhaps I am, because I cannot for the world make it work. And my client offers no other help except for the initial screenshot showing how she/he can get a pane showing those needed insertions.

When looking af Adobe's home page it looks as if any insertions made using Acrobat Reader X should be visible to anyone using Acrobat Reader. Howcome they are not visible to me? I use Acrobat Reader 9.4 - it seems to be the newest, free version available, and I cannot find any settings in there to make those insertions appear. What am I doing wrong?

Could it be that the client is supposed to send the pdf for review in a specific way for me to be able to see the inserted text?

All help would be really appreciated! :-/

Assuming you have clicked 'View Comments' (or something similar) and nothing shows, perhaps it is a version problem. I updated to Version 10.1.0 about a month ago. You can download (free) updates from their website.

Yes, I do believe it is a version problem, since this comment feature apparently is only available in Acrobat Reader X Pro (paid version), and I only have free versions.

I thought my version (just downloaded) was the latest free release, but for some reason it is not, I guess, since yours is version 10.
Done - version 10 has been downloaded, and...shows only the yellow sticky notes just like before - not blue boxes to click, and only empty boxes shown whenever something has be

I am becoming more and more convinced that the client sent the file in a wrong way.
With previous versions the client could send the file in a specific way so that pro features would temporarily become available to the translator while marking up the PDF, and I would assume that the same is true with this version, or what?

In Acrobat X and Pro (i.e. the paid versions), there is an option on the Comments menu
to enable Acrobar Reader users to make comments in a PDF.

The menu is Comments > Enable for Commenting and Analysis in Adobe Reader

Or better yet: have your client watch the video!!!

Basically they just need to select this option, and then save the PDF with a new name so it does’t overwrite the original file.
