I am confused about a translation for this...

Do they mean a primary cancer of the liver that has metastacised/is metastacising to other organs, or do they mean that this is a secondary/metastatic cancer of the liver, i.e. it has spread to the liver.

This comes from a very brief patient report: this is the only diagnosis given, and no further details are given.

I know which I think is the most likely, but I think it would be better to see what others think...

Explanation:
FIRST OFF, I did not choose metastatic as metastatic cancer is cancer that has spread to the liver from other organs ( see ref. Merck Manual:http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec10/ch139/ch139f.html). And it is quite clear that Leberkarzinom is PRIMARY liver cancer that has metastasized ( to other organs).

Secondly, I would not use the term carcinoma ( although it IS correct!) to make it consistent with "liver". Cancer and liver go hand in hand, and hepatic and carcinoma go hand in hand.

Alas, my suggestion!
