Englisch term

security clearance

Englisch > Deutsch Wirtschaft/Finanzwesen Staatswesen/Politik Corporate Policies paragraph
Hello,

I am stumped on how to concisely translate "security clearance" here. I know that a person with a s.c. is a Geheimnisträger, but what is a s.c. by itself?

Here is the context:
"Special procedures must be followed when handling proprietary and confidential information relating to ABC's dealings with the U.S. government. In addition, ABC may receive inquiries from government investigators for employee information. (Examples include: inquiries from government investigators for employee information; information on reporting requirements and processing of security clearances or violations of the Corporate Personal Integrity Program (CPIP))"

Thanks very much in advance!
Gabriele

Cannot speak for Germany, but here in the USA, YOU do not receive anything. The paperwork just goes into your file. If you work for a company, the company may put a colored stripe on your work badge, but YOU do not get a special card or anything.

Hi all,

For clarity: I'm interested in the German term for the paper/certificate or ID card one gets when one has passed the security clearance check.

Sicherhietsüberprüfung

would describe the process of reviewing a person's background for purposes of granting a security clearance.

There is no card or certicate issued (in the US) when you get a security clearance, merely an entry on the appropriate personnel form, e.g. for me in my Army 201 file. A listing of personnel's security clearances used to be maintained by the security office - probably just an online database now - that can be checked to verify someone has the appropriate clearance.

Can't give you the German, but

perhaps I can shed some light on the process.
To receive one, you will have your background investigated (how long has he lived here? Any problems with the family? Too much drinking, gambling, drugs, other illegal activities?). This investigation is handled by the government. The person applying for the sc fills out a form listing residence, sources of income, etc. This will all form the basis for the questions asked. They also want to know who your neighbors are, list a few references and, in my case at least, some translation agencies I have worked for (You want to freak out an agency? Have a government investigator show up asking questions about one of your translators!).

This is all part of the "processing of the sc" and may include follow-up questions.

Then, a year after you needed it, your classification shows up and you can work on the job!

Sicherheitsermächtigung

I'm not really familiar with US procedures, but I found this document on the German US Embassy website - it's an official document and they're referring to security clearance as "Sicherheitsermächtigung."

I believe Ted's term is better, even if "Sicherheit" is a bit vague.

Unbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung

Sicherheitsstufe

here are some examples: "Bei Multi Level Security erhalten ((Subject|Subjekte)) und ... Nur wer eine ausreichende Sicherheitsstufe (Freigabe, Clearance) hat, darf..."
No. 2 "Security Clearance A3. ... Chipuebermittlung #21.A.DRK.JEZ Sicherheitsstufe Alpha. ... " usw.. once granted, the security clearance would be the "Sicherheitsstufe"; if the actual "clearance" procedure is still in progress, then "Überprüfung" would be the correct term, certainly. Hope that helps EhvP
