The report card or transcript says that the student has worded two years to obtain kommunikationswirt BAW (BAW is the name of the school, Bayerische Akademie für Werbung und Marketing

I thought she might be studying to get a "hostessing degree" but that makes NO sense (in US terms, of course)
and although I have found a number of schools through google that offer this two-year degree (e.g. http://konferenz-der-akademien.de/kda-htmls/zumkommunikation...

I can't quite understand the 'wirt.' Landlord, host? It may be a particularly German expression.. I cannot get a handle on this.

If a Zeugnis is for education beyond the secondary it would definitely be referred to as transcript - and not a report card.
The suffix -wirt means manager.

More on the suffix -wirt: a Betriebswirt is business administrator, management expert or graduate in business management.

If it's for a US audience, degree would be acceptable. We issue associate degrees after 2 yrs of college.

diploma/degree in marketing communications

the "Wirt" has nothing to do with "host" but rather with Wirtschaft = economy/economics. A typical way of Bavaria and I believe also Austria to express things....

Communications specialist

I had a similar translation a little while ago for a student at the German Akademie für Absatzwirtschaft. After quite a lot of research, I found out that the job descriptions for 'communications specialists' corresponded with the field she was trained in (ie. Economics, Law, Marketing, Communications, Advertisement, Sales Promotion, Public Relations, Advertising Media Design, Advertising Media Creation). I used the term 'government-certified communications specialist' followed by the German term 'Kommunikationswirtin' in brackets. In this case it was not the same as a University degree though.

In the US we seem to give diplomas at all stages, a rather ridiculous habits that has kindergarten children wearing graduation robes...
