A website of a company.
In the introductory remarks on who they are, they say:
We provide services in the following areas:
" * Begleitung und Überwachung von klinischen Arzneimittelstudien und Anwendungsbeobachtungen
* Unternehmensberatung und Referententätigkeit"
I have 'management consulting' for 'Unternehmensberatung' so I cannot repeat consulting for 'Referententaetigkeit' Any ideas?

: Whilst I agree that Referent can mean lecturer, I wonder about this context.//I'm not sure what that tells us - it is just a web search. I would tend towards consultant trainer or some such. Lecturers in the UK are really related specifically to education

: Nope, a referee is an umpire, perhaps mediator in business, but most certainly not a lecturer/trainer.

As far as I can see, it means exactly the same as Beratung.

: Afraid I disagree. Consultants work in an advisory capacity, whereas a Referent is someone who gives a talk to a roomful of people on a specific topic. A world of difference.

: Usually in D a Referententätigkeit covers lecturing or training assignments in firms on particular subjects, often without further affiliation to the organisations running the training institution. It shouldn't be left out.

Discussion
@Streitparth: Personally I'd prefer "hired/seconded speaker/trainer", for the essence of a Referent in this context is that he is not normally part of the organisation hiring him. He may lecture on any subject, with a target of imparting knowledge to his audience - sort of results-oriented unlike university practice.
In the particular context of pharmaceutical speaking a R. may be nothing but a snake-oil charmer paid by manufacturers to sell some new medical gizmo.
The activities of the DUTCH DESK include, in particular, advisory services for members of the German-Dutch network, for example, for the German-Dutch Chamber of Commerce or the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
