Deutsch term

Ausgabestelle

Deutsch > Englisch Technik IT (Informationstechnologie) Alarm Generation
"Alarme müssen über folgende Ausgabestellen visualisiert werden:

- Alarm Popup
- Alarmviewer (immer im Vordergrund und kann ausgedruckt werden)
- Drucker"

Talking about the generation of alarms in some computer program or other. The standard "dictionary" translation of "Ausgabestelle" is "issuing office", but this is COMPLETELY WRONG in the present context. Here, "Ausgabestellen" refers to the alarm popup, alarm viewer and printer. Nothing whatsoever to do with any offices. So what does it mean here? Issuing points? TIA for any light you can shed on this most unusual use of the word "Ausgabestelle".

Discussion

Rowan Morrell (asker) Oct 5, 2007:
Swiss German I've clean forgot to mention that this is a Swiss German text (doh!). Does Ausgabestelle have any special meanings in Swiss German?
Languageman Oct 3, 2007:
I don't think it makes any difference to the answer. This is just saying that the printer, monitor, task etc. has to receive some information to produce the alarm. I still don't think the term 'display' is right if printers are involved - use 'output'.
Rowan Morrell (asker) Oct 3, 2007:
Another Example I've just found another example of this word being used:

"Das BMS GMP RLT (Managementebene RLT) generiert Alarme und sendet diese zu verschiedene Empfängern (Ausgabestellen) im System."

So these mysterious "Ausgabestellen" seem to be recipients of alarms. Although the sentence I have just quoted is followed by the sentence I quoted originally, so maybe it is just display options or some such. But can you say that about recipients/receivers of alarms?

Thanks, Steve!
agree Armorel Young : possibly even display/print options, since they can either be displayed on-screen or printed out

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "These terms appeared elsewhere in the text in a context that seemed to confirm "display option" as the correct answer. However, in line with Armorel's peer comment, I think I might enter "display/print option" in the glossary. Thanks to everyone for their assistance and apologies for the slow grading."

output area

Could it be that they are just talking about an area where these things have to be made available?
*Output area - A part of storage that has been reserved for output data. Also known as output block.*

I am not sure about this, just a first thought.

output option

Dare I suggest that combining both the previous suggestions might be preferable. As Armorel implies in her comment, a printer would not usually be referred to as a display in English, nor, in my opinion, would a printer be referred to as an 'area'.
