I received a job via Proz.com.....

Since then, No word! No contact! No payment! Regardless of the fact that I have sent the person numerous (polite for the moment) e-mails requesting confirmation of receipt, feedback of the job done and payment (€30 - small job but money earned just the same).



As this job is still NOT closed, I am beginning to wonder whether any other Proz colleague has done the same job, and received no payment.



I had regular contact with person when she gave me the job and now....NOTHING!



She has a hotmail account and in retrospect I should probably have been more cautious!



I did quite a bit of research for this job as there were complicated medical terms involved and it\'s a right pain in the behind to have NO contact whatsoever, not only because of the money but for the lack of feedback!



What do you suggest I do????????

Has anyone else done the same job???????

Do you think she got all the bidders to do the translation and then chose the best one???????

What\'s the Proz policy (if there is one) on this???????????????

Do I cut my losses and file the well learned lesson away for future reference???????

in case you know who the client is, try to contact him/her. I had the same problem with a proz job and succeeded in this way.

I hope your job is paid soon, but I find it very similar to another case for which I have read some complaints in the Italian forum. The job came from a phantomatic Luisa Romani.

I believe that she has not paid anyone, and like your case, it was a short and urgent medical translation.

Search the Italian forum and you will read more about that.

In the future, make sure you know all details from an outsourcer. Name, company, address, website, phone number, etc... the more the better.



Do not accept a job without a written confirmation, containing all essential details: language, number of words or pages/lines, price agreed, payment terms, bank details, and so forth.



Do not trust a simple email address, hotmail or otherwise. They are too easy to create for a specific scam and discard after the job is delivered.

The site is not responsible for jobs agreed directly between outsourcers and translators. After all the site is not taking a percentage of the job.



Accepting a job involves applying the normal attention in accepting and delivering a professional service, as in any other business and any venue, and a pinch of common sense.

Probably.

Luckily 30 Euro is not a large sum, a bargain for an important lesson.

What I suggest is, if you have the full company information, to enter it, along with your experience, on the blue board so there is at least a track record established. This won\'t help you directly, but it will warn others of her practices.

To my knowledge, proZ doesn\'t get involved with payment disputes.

Wish I had more to say on payment recovery... I was stiffed by an agency here for a rather substantial sum almost a year ago now. I\'ve pretty much written it off as bad (but valuable) experience. Since then, I\'ve seen more translators come forward with their negative experiences with the same agency. I\'m willing to bet the agency has a hard time finding translators now. I certainly haven\'t seen them here on proZ for some time.
