Although I enjoy my job as a freelance translator, I often find myself bored when working. I guess it's the solitude of working from home and the lack of casual communication.

I remember when I used to work for a software company in London (as a CS rep), a lot of the software engineers would have IRC applications running and be chatting with other professionals/friends from around the world.

That's why I cannot join you in the chat. Chatting too much was damaging for me 10 years ago, and I haven't chatted since then. I must keep far from it!

I also think Proz.com should have their own chat room...

though it would probably be dangerously distracting for some, including myself, as Tomas pointed out... Maybe in between jobs...

A chat channel has been proposed for ProZ.com a few times. I wonder how tolerant the moderators would be if a group of IRC'ers were to promote their channel (even a #prozians channel) every now and then (e.g. by answering a query by saying "Feel free to ask me in the chat channel" or suchlike).
