I plan on going to university to become a translator. I have lived in Mexico for various years of my life but am originally from California. Can anybody recommend an (accredited) university in South or Central America?

I'm not certain whether the course is at a Masters level or just a diploma, but I think it is a Masters. But you can't get much more accredited that the Colegio de México. This is in Mexico City, of course.

You obviously need to keep in mind the areas of translation in which you want to specialise when looking for courses.
Buena suerte!

Not in Buenos Aires, but in the city of Cordoba, right in the center of Argentina. It is a wonderful city famous for its university and in my personal opinion a GREAT place to be a student.

Unlike other South American universities (such as the one here in Montevideo), the National University of Cordoba has a specific school or college ("facultad") for languages/linguistics and therefore the curricula is very attractive from a linguistic point of view.

I now live in Montevideo, Uruguay, where the state university also offers a certified translator's degree, but it is awarded by the law school and therefore the curricula is heavily oriented towards legal translations.

I'm sure that there are many, many great places to study in South and Central America and that you will what you are looking for.

So, good luck to you on your journey towards becoming a translator,

Laureana
