People who wish to take part in introducing Korean literature to the world are invited to enter the 36th Modern Korean Literature Translation Awards, co-sponsored by The Korea Times and the Korea Exchange Bank.
The annual competition comprises two categories: (a) Fiction and (b) Poetry.

 Rules for Fiction Submissions

Entrants should submit an English translation of one complete work. The original should have been first published in or after 1980.

One Grand Prize of 5 million won will be given for the most outstanding translation in the category. In addition, a small number of Commendation Awards of 2 million won will be awarded if there are entries of sufficient quality or if there is no entry that deserves the Grand Prize.

 Rules for Poetry Submissions

Candidates should submit English translations of no less than four and no more than six poems, all by the same poet. The original poems should have been first published in or after 1980.

One Grand Prize of 2.5 million won will be given for an entry with at least three qualified poems. If no entry is found to deserve the full award, a Commendation Award of 1 million won will be given instead for the best single poem.

All entries should reach The Korea Times by Sept. 9, 2005. After a bilingual committee reviews the entries, the winners will be announced in the 55th anniversary issue of The Korea Times on Nov. 1, 2005. The prize-winning entries will be published in the newspaper.

Each entry should be submitted together with the original Korean text(s) and a biographical note on the author and the translator(s), including the translator's name, full address, contact number, and email address on a separate page. The translator's name should not figure anywhere within the submitted text of the translation.

Each entry should also be accompanied by a document signed by the author of the work translated, authorizing the translator(s) to translate the work and submit the completed translation work for The Korea Times Translation Awards. The document must include a phrase authorizing The Korea Times to publish the translation if it is selected as a winning entry.

Manuscripts should be computer-printed and double-spaced. The submitted manuscripts will not be returned.

Entries should be mailed to:

The Korea Times Translation Awards
14 Chunghak-dong, Chongno-ku, Seoul (Postal Code: 110-792).
