Deutsch term
Kennenlerngespräch
Deutsch > Englisch
Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften
Werbung/PR
The context is that a future student goes to a school and has a chat with the management, so that gives him/her the chance of learning more about the courses, teachers, courses, etc., but the school also gets this chance...(they are pretty well booked up)...
In German we would also say "Schnuppergespräch", anything "Schnupper...." is often translated by "taster", except it doesn't work connotationally with talk or conversation...
First getting-to-know each other?
Or would the context simply be an interview?

get-acquainted gets 2 to 3 more Googles than getting - depending on the word that follows.

I meant to say 2 to 3 times as many :-)

initial appointment / talk
I'm unsure if there even is an exact equivalent to this in English. I would go about it like this: During his initial appointment, the student has the chance to ask about courses, teachers, fees, ....

Introductory conversation
This would also work, although the other suggestions are fine - there is no one-to-one phraseology here

introductory talk
You could use:-
introductory talk
introductory appointment
introductory discussion
introductory meeting
"Talk" gives you the option that they are talking to you and you have the opportunity to talk to them and ask questions too....so a bit of a catch-all.
My daughter is currently going along to a number of colleges for introductory talks......

informational discussion
I do alumni interviewing for my college (Go Midd!), and offer two types of meetings: a formal interview that will go on the record, and an informal get-together that we call 'informational discussions'. I think the latter would fit here--depending on the tone of the piece, "informational chat" would work too.
