Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Many thanks for the discussion and all the suggestions I eventually plumped for "which I can warmly recommend to you as an interesting read", although of course this is a rather free translation and it depends so much on the general tenor etc.

Why, puzzled? Isn't it reasonable *not* to propose an answer if you feel you don't have enough context to propose a reasonable one?

I'm particularly puzzled by the fact that the only person who raised the question is someone who didn't, at any stage, propose an answer, and now seems rather upset by it all. Sorry Brigitte!

FWIW, I do think Brigitte is right - the extra context you have provided, David, does change things for me. This is unlikely to be one book and since it is also unlikely to be reading for pleasure, some of the suggestions - including your own 'warmly'

Eine der Antworten bezieht sich konkret auf ein Buch - hätte sich die Empfehlung nicht auf ein solches bezogen, wäre sie sofort auszuschließen gewesen. Aber keine Sorge: ich werde keine dummen Fragen mehr stellen sondern mich von kudoz ganz fernhalten!

Obwohl es geht um die (größere menge) wissenschaftlicher Arbeit/Forschungsergebnisse eines renommierten Forschers, die sonst nur Fachleute wohl lesen würden und die angesprochenen Zuhörer vermutlich sonst nie auf die Idee kommen würden zu lesen. Es ist also vermutlich eher eine rhetorische Empfehlung als eine, die wirklich Folge zu leisten ist (wie z.B. wenn ein Lehrer seiner Klasse eine solche Empfehlung erteilt.

Given your additional context, you could say 'which I would recommend [to you] as worth reading.' i.e. there is some profit in it - since this is not about pleasurable reads like novels.
