Hi Suzanne,

My sincere solidarity wishes to you, your husband and the people of Haiti in general.

There has been a lot of exchange of info. on this in Twitter. Though these tragedies are always inexplicable, wherever they take place, they seem more so in the case of a country like Haiti, which has recently had major problems.

Haiti Jan 13, 2010

My thoughts are with you Suzanne, and with everyone in Haiti.

We have a "second hand book shelf" in our office, and we have just decided that any income will be going to Haiti for the time being. Small change, but every little helps.

I'm worried about donating via mobile phone messages. I can't now remember what the disaster was a few years back in Spain, when people were invited to do this - until they realised that at the same time they were increasing the government's VAT revenue. The tax office later gave the money it had "made" to those working on the emergency, I believe.

But I ALWAYS recommend making donations via bank transfer to known NGOs. Apart from anything else, you may well find that this is tax de

But I ALWAYS recommend making donations via bank transfer to known NGOs. Apart from anything else, you may well find that this is tax deductible, and that therefore you can give a little more. This is certainly the case in Spain.

Donations via mobile text messages Jan 13, 2010

Hi Noni,

Last year I made a donation via my mobile's SMS to another cause/program (in Spain) and I followed up on this and, at least in this case, the donations reached the corresponding recipient.

Of course, like you mentioned, there may be other tax implications (like VAT), but I think that for some people it is a lot easier to react immediately via mobile than via a bank account.

I fully take your point about the likelihood of people making donations, so I will keep my head down on this one, while still encouraging people to donate (and therefore donate more) money via banks!

I don't know what to say, I am so sad, please be sure that my prayers are with you.

(No problem finding sensible target orgs for donations from GER, too.)

I am sure he will be safe and sound Jan 13, 2010

Suzanne, reason says that he is safe and sound. He will be trying to get in touch by all possible means but it must be chaos out there. We will pray for him to be able to get in touch quickly so that you can sleep tonight!

A big hug from Spain
Tomás
