Hello,

I've just recently finished my training in translation (English/German, field of expertise: economics) and I've started working.

Now, I've heard that legal translations are among the most profitable ones. That's why I'm thinking about branching out. But I have no idea how to go about learning how to do such translations, since my background is in economics. Does anyone have tips how to do that? Or are there any good online resources available?

Hi Stefan, Oct 4, 2020

Well I heard that financial translation was one of the most profitable too. But of course, specialising in legal translation would be a good idea since a lot of financial documents require a translator with some legal knowledge.

I am currently attending law classes for sworn translators. Once you've passed the exams, you get a certificate which is now mandatory to become a sworn translator in Belgium. Maybe you could find similar university programs in Germany...

The texts of judgments, opinions and orders of the Court of Justice of the European Union and the Court of First Instance are available on site europa.eu and most of them are translated into all Community languages. It could be a very useful source…

Because you still are planning to keep translating into German, why don´t you look for an answer for your matter in the German branch:

I find that legal translations pay the same as any other subject.
